Using the Cards

The Cards of Life analyzes the month and day people were born on to provide:

  • Insight about who you are
  • Insights about others you know
  • The gifts and challenges both of you are likely to face during your life
  • The attraction or appeal, intensity and compatibility or longevity of each connection

The method can be used to compare family, romantic partners, business associates or friendships.

Things to Keep in Mind

b

When Reading the Cards

As you read birth or secondary cards for yourself and other people you know, there are some things you will want to keep in mind. Each description begins with general information about the number. The second section gives more specific details about how this card affects someone which includes how the suit and the card’s placement on the life spread affect the card.

Each card description includes information about the potential challenges and gifts the card provides to that person. The purpose of this is because people’s lives change over time. This can provide a bigger picture of things they have been through or what they may accomplish.

The most important thing to remember is that everyone has choice. People have the choice to lean into gifts, to use them for good or exploit them, to persevere through their challenges or use them as a crutch.

i

Everyone has Several Cards

Almost everyone has a unique birth and secondary card.1 Each birth and secondary card also has two associated karma cards.2

A birth card is the strongest representation of who a person is, but secondary and karma cards also play an important part in shaping their personality, gifts and challenges.

Reading a person’s birth, secondary and karma cards helps provide a more comprehensive view of them.

Exceptions

  1. People born with the Astrological sign of Leo have the same birth and secondary card.
  2. There are four semi-fixed cards that operate slightly different than the rest of the cards in the deck. These cards split into two pairs. If one of these cards is your birth or secondary card, you would only have one karma card – the other half of that pair.

When Reading Someone Else's Cards

When you are reading someone else’s birth or secondary cards, think of the relationship as a whole. Try not to think of the very beginning, or end if there is one, of this relationship as those usually carry feelings that are more extreme than the relationship when taken as a whole.

Everyone has Choice

This is so important it is worth mentioning twice. Everyone has choice. Each card provides benefits and challenges and these can be in different combinations. Some cards might be more of a challenge than benefit while others provide more gifts than challenges.

How someone handles each of these will often change over time and will vary from person to person. Two people with the same birth card can behave very differently. This can be for several reasons, not the least of which is that they likely have different secondary cards unless they share an actual birth date.

Additionally, people have choice. What they do with their gifts, do they use it to help others or manipulate others, changes who they are. Someone who chooses to thrive off of their challenges, grow their character and become stronger will appear very differently than someone with the same card who succumbs to their challenges and lets these define them.

So while the cards can provide an accurate description of the benefits and challenges people will have, what people do with that is their choice.

This is important to keep in mind because it will help you see how two people with a shared card can end up so different.

If you take the time to assess their differences, you will often find what seems contradictory is really about the way they have chosen to utilize their gifts or how they respond to their challenges.

Example of choice affecting behavior
Example Challenge: Change

Good: Used to welcome in new chapters in their lives and let go of those things, jobs, people, etc., in their lives that are not serving them
Bad: Used to convince themselves they are a victim, that life is unfair or out to get them, or as a way to make excuses for their lack of happiness or success

Example Gift: Charm

Good: Used to make people feel comfortable and put them at ease as they are comfortable expressing emotions and people are drawn to them
Bad: Used to draw people in, which can harm others because they often fail to commit to one person since they always have plenty of people drawn to them
